International Pre-Orientation (IPO) provides a platform for students from around the world to ease into their transition into the University of Chicago. Organized by the College Programming Office, this six-day event allows incoming students the opportunity to explore campus, the neighborhood of Hyde Park, and the city of Chicago while making friends and getting to know upperclass students in the College.
This year, International Pre-Orientation will run from Sunday, September 16th through Friday, September 21st. It is an opportunity for international students to meet faculty members, staff, and students who are here to help orient them to Chicago and the College. The program focuses on life in college and getting to know the campus and city of Chicago, while also providing students with some time to recover from travels and relax in preparation for Orientation.
International Pre-Orientation is optional and space is limited. This program is for incoming undergraduate students only. Transportation from either O'Hare or Midway Airport, housing throughout the full duration of the program and meals are covered by the program fee paid by participants. Students may bring all of their belongings for the academic year with them when they move in for International Pre-Orientation. Locked storage will be provided for the duration of the program, and all bags stored during the program will be moved for you over the course of the week into your permanent room. For this reason, it is highly recommended that students pack a seperate bag for the week and store everything else. You will find out more about move-in and luggage storage on the Orientation website.
